    Fischer Named Indiana Sportscaster of the Year

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The National Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association recently named Don Fischer, the "voice" of Indiana University football and basketball games, as the Indiana Sportscaster of the Year. This marks the 19th time that he has earned the honor.

    Now in his 34th year as the radio play-by-play announcer for the Indiana University football and basketball teams, Fischer has been named Sportscaster of the Year a total of 23 times by two organizations. He has been honored four times by the Indiana Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

    In addition to broadcasting the games, Fischer hosts weekly coaches talk shows for both football and basketball. He also does a daily IU sports update that is syndicated throughout Indiana on the IU Radio Network.

    For the past 12 years, Fischer has served as the play-by-play man for Indianapolis Colts preseason games.

    A native of Mendota and Rochelle, Ill., Fischer has been in the radio business for 38 years. His previous broadcast experience includes stops in Butte, Mont., Ottawa, Ill., Springfield, Ill. and Terre Haute, Ind.
