BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana men's basketball signee Kevin "Yogi" Ferrell became the 26th Hoosier to be named a McDonald's All-American, the committee announced on ESPNU on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012. He is the second-straight Indiana signee (Cody Zeller - 2011) and the third since 2007 (Eric Gordon) to earn the honor, and the 15th Hoosier honoree to hail from the state of Indiana.
Ferrell, a 5-11 guard from Park Tudor High School in Indianapolis, is Tom Crean's second consecutive McDonald's All-American. He is averaging 17.8 points and 6.3 assist per game this season.
"Yogi is a very good student, outstanding player, he's a leader in his school and he's a winner, and he's done it during the high school season, he's done it during the summer seasons. He's been a winner at all levels, and I think when you have that, it says a lot about the character of him, so really proud of him," said Crean.
In 2011, Ferrell, who will play on the West Team, averaged 18.7 points and 6.6 assists per game. He led Park Tudor to a 26-2 record and the IHSAA Class 2A State title. He was named First Team All-State by the Associated Press and was an Indiana Junior All-Star.
The 2012 McDonald's All-American game will be played at the United Center in Chicago on March 28 at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
