Hoosiers Run Past Slippery Rock

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Four players scored in double-figures led by sophomore Tyra Buss with 31 and the Indiana women's basketball team earned a 98-33 exhibition victory over Slippery Rock on Sunday at Assembly Hall.
Junior Karlee McBride scored 19 points and sophomore Amanda Cahill recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Junior Alexis Gassion contributed 12 points.
After Slippery Rock led 9-8 in the first quarter, the Hoosiers used a 14-0 run to gain control and go up 22-9. Indiana held Slippery Rock to two field goals over the final five minutes of the quarter.
The Hoosiers used the momentum from the first quarter going into the second with three-point baskets by junior Tyshee Towner, McBride and Buss to ignite a 24-0 run where they held Slippery Rock scoreless for six minutes and 22 seconds. That run pushed the Indiana lead to 50-16 and they went into the locker room at halftime up 53-19.
In the second half the Hoosiers held Slippery Rock to 6-of-42 (14.3 percent) shooting from the field and outscored The Rock 45-14.
Indiana outrebounded Slippery Rock 62-38 with 18 offensive rebounds, which they converted into 19-second chance points.
The Hoosiers also held advantages in points in the paint (48-14), points off turnovers (24-12), fast break points (24-2) and bench points (26-14).
Up next the Hoosiers open the season on Friday Nov. 13 at 12:00 p.m. ET against Tennessee State.
