SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Indiana had six different players score in their game against Santa Clara, but fell to the Broncos, 8-6.
The Hooseirs got on the board first early in the first quarter with a goal from Rebecca Gerrity. Santa Clara would end the quarter by scoring three unanswered goals to lead 3-1.
To start the second period, Indiana would tie the game after goals from Alexis Jones and Kelly Mattews. On Matthews goal, Colleen McNaught would pick up her second assist of the game. Before the first half would end, Santa Clara would net two more goals, followed by a Shelby Taylor goal. Santa Clara would take a 5-4 lead into the intermission.
Santa Clara would grab the first goal of the second half to take a two goal lead. Freshman Sarah Myers would assist Summer Creighton to pull the Hoosiers back within one. The Broncos would finish off the third with their seventh goal to take their lead back to two.
Strong defense shuts down Santa Clara's first possession of the final quarter. On the Hoosiers next possession, McNaught would score her only goal of the game get the Indiana within one. A series of saved shots and scorless possession left Indiana down two after an eighth and final goal fom Santa Clara.
