Class comes in with eight high school state championships, 16 top-five finishes at state meets.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – IU head coach Ron Helmer has announced the signing of an incredibly talented and already successful 17 member women's signing class for 2015.
"Our staff has worked tirelessly while assembling a recruiting class that covers most events, many of them with high level quality athletes," Helmer said. "As a result we have set new standards for talent and potential which if combined with improved standards for work, character and competitive spirit will result in the development of the championship quality team our staff is determined to field."
The class hails from nine different states and has combined for eight high school state championships and 16 top-five finishes at state championship meets.
The class includes two individuals that recently won Indiana state championships in Kennedy Trine (pole vault) and Keri Ertel (300m Hurdles). Incoming freshman Maggie Allen from Louisville, Ky., has earned double state championships in each of her last two high school state meets, twice in the 1600m and once each in the 800m and 3200m.
The class has two transfers, including thrower Laura Schroeder, who finished in second-place at the 2015 NCAA DII Championships in the hammer throw.
"It's my sense, just as it is with this staff, that we have the right people in place to achieve these standards to build a championship level team," Helmer said. "I believe this recruiting class will be instrumental in this process and we are excited for the upcoming season."
