BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the second straight game, the Indiana men's soccer team outplayed its opponent for a majority of the match. After coming away with a win on Friday against St. John's, the Hoosiers were on the wrong end of a 1-0 score against No. 4 Notre Dame on Sunday at Bill Armstrong Stadium.

The Fighting Irish were able to put home the game-winning goal in the 109^th minute to escape with a victory.

The Hoosiers held a 14-6 advantage in shots and 10-6 in corner kicks but were not able to find the back of the net, despite hitting the post (Video) and the crossbar (Video) with shots during the game.

The IU attack was able to mount it's first scoring opportunity in the eighth minute when senior Ben Maurey chipped a ball from the left side of the box to senior Femi Hollinger-Janzen at the back post. Hollinger-Janzen's header went back across the face of the goal and hit the left post and stayed out of the goal.

In the 22^nd minute, the Hoosiers drew their fifth corner kick of the half and sophomore Grant Lillard was able to get his head on it, but he was outside the 6-yard box, so he couldn't get enough pace on it and the Notre Dame goalkeeper made the save.

Just two minutes later in the 24^th minute, junior midfielder Tanner Thompson was able to create some space in the middle of the field and unleashed a blast that ricocheted off the crossbar and back into the field of play before Notre Dame was able to clear it out.

Notre Dame was finally able to sustain possession and mount an attack in the 38^th minute. The Irish drew four corner kicks in the span of two minutes and force IU goalkeeper Colin Webb to make one save to keep the game scoreless as the teams headed to the locker room tied at 0-0.

The Hoosiers once again used a corner kick to generate their first scoring threat of the second half, and again it was Lillard that found his way onto the ball but his header was wide of the goal by inches.

The teams continued to play through the midfield, with the defenders for both teams thwarting any sustained attack. The Irish appeared as though they were set to take the lead with 10 minutes left in the game but were flagged for offsides to negate the opportunity.

The final minute saw IU register a pair of corner kicks but could not find space in the box to finish the chances, forcing overtime.

After the first overtime session was without any real scoring chances for either team, the second period started out the same way. But with less than two minutes remaining, Notre Dame found room on the left side and was able to serve the ball into the box, where Thomas Ueland volleyed it into the goal to hand the Hoosiers the 1-0 loss.

Indiana will return to action next weekend at the Mike Berticelli Tournament at Notre Dame, where they will play UAB on Friday at 5 p.m. and USF on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Earlier in the day, No. 13 Maryland was able to post a 4-0 win over St. John's, and coupled with the Hoosiers loss to Notre Dame, claim the Adidas/IU Credit Union Classic title on goal differential over the Fighting Irish.

The Indiana representatives on the all-tournament team were freshman Andrew Gutman and junior Phil Fives.
