Offensive Outburst Leads Baseball Past Louisiana-Lafayette

The Hoosiers (1-4) scored twice in the second inning to grab an early lead, before a seven-run third inning opened things up. Indiana then added a single run in the sixth inning and two in the seventh. The Ragin' Cajuns (3-3) got single runs in the second and fourth, and two in the seventh to account for their scoring.
Redshirt-junior Jack Perkins (1-0) threw five innings and allowed two runs on two hits to earn his first victory as a Hoosier. The right-hander struck out seven and issued four walks.
Redshirt-junior Matthew Ellis and redshirt-sophomore Morgan Colopy each hit home runs to highlight a 12-run outburst. Redshirt-sophomore Bobby Whalen and freshman Brock Tibbitts each chipped in two-hit games, with Whalen collecting three RBIs on the day.
All nine starters reached base safely in the game, as IU posted nine hits, walked seven times and reached via hit-by-pitch once. Colopy and freshman Carter Mathison joined Whalen with multi-RBI games, as each of them produced two runs batted in.
For Louisiana-Lafayette, Kyle DeBarge and Will Veillon each had two hits, scored one run and drove in one RBI. Peyton Havard (0-1) took the loss on the mound with two innings of work and four runs – three earned – allowed. He struck out two and allowed five hits.

Matthew Ellis hit a solo home run to lead off the inning and Brock Tibbitts followed with a double. After the first out was recorded, Carter Mathison's double scored Tibbitts.

Top Third
Two hits, three errors and four walks led to a seven-run frame for the Hoosiers. A double, error and walk started the inning for IU before back-to-back walks to Tibbitts and Morgan Colopy walked to push runs across. Mathison drove in the second run with a sacrifice fly and Josh Pyne drove in a run thanks for a ULL error. Tyler Doanes, Phillip Glasser and Bobby Whalen all drove in two-out RBIs to cap the scoring in the inning.

Bottom Fourth
A pair of walks and a balk put runners on first and second with no outs against Jackson Perkins. An RBI ground out plated the lone run of the inning, as Perkins got a ground out and strikeout to end the frame.

With two outs, Doanes walked and Glasser reached on an error. Whalen followed with a two-RBI double down the left field line.

Veillon doubled and came in to score on a Kyle DeBarge base hit with one out. Mason Zambo then plated the second run with a base hit.
