No. 11 IU Collects Pair Of Wins On Day One Of Indiana Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind.  –  No. 11 Indiana cruised to a pair of wins to open the 2025 Indiana Classic against No. 16 CSUN (19-10) and Salem (20-6) at Counsilman-Billinsgley Aquatic Center.

KEY MOMENTS VS. CSUN
- Indiana started off the season against No. 16 CSUN by taking a 5-0 lead late into the first quarter, which included a hat trick by senior Skylar Kidd. In the second, the Hoosiers led by as many as six including goals from junior Louisa Downes and sophomore Nancy Baylor-Sefchick as it took the advantage at the break, 11-5.
- The Matadors would close the gap in the third, coming within four goals with 55 seconds remaining but senior Olivia Stark put the stamp on the frame with a goal with seven ticks on the clock for a 15-10 lead.
- The Hoosiers then rattled off four unanswered goals in the fourth as Kidd notched her fifth goal of the morning to help the Hoosiers take the first game of their own tournament, 19-10.
KEY MOMENTS VS. SALEM
- IU dominated game two of Saturday's opening round, coming out with a 6-0 lead where Kidd once again notched a hat trick in the first quarter against Salem.
- The lead grew to 8-0 before Tigers got on the board in the second while still holding the 5-2 advantage in points on the board as it took a 11-2 lead at the break.
- Senior Claire Witting had a pair of goals to highlight the Hoosiers in the third, as the defense held Salem to just one goal in the fourth quarter for the 20-6 victory.
NOTES
- Kidd's five goals against CSUN tied her career high for most goals in a single game.
- Junior goalie Jasmine Higgs made 12 saves in cage and also picked up four steals.
- Senior Sophia Sollie had four goals against the Matadors while senior Grace Hathaway also chipped in three.
- Nine different Hoosiers scored against CSUN while sophomore Grace Klingler also picked up four steals and Stark added two field blocks.
- Kidd added five more goals against Salem, tallying 10 for the day and went 10-for-11 from the field in the pair of wins.
- Junior Nicole Tyner had a hat trick against the Tigers while Klingler, Sollie and Downes added multiple goals (2) each.
- Sophomore Audrey Cox saw time in the cage in game two, recording five saves and had two assists
- Indiana won all eight sprints on the day.
