3: WE REACH OUR HIGHEST ATHLETIC POTENTIAL AND WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS.
A rich tradition of athletic success. Winning is in our DNA. And the pursuit of excellence is in the blood of each and every Hoosier student-athlete. It's these truths that have given us an impressive tradition of competitive success and accolades--including among the most team and individual national championships, All-Americans and Olympians in the country.
Coaching. Our beloved former President Herman B Wells understood that faculty would make Indiana University a world-class institution of higher education. Similarly, we understand that coaches make Indiana University a national leader in intercollegiate athletics. That's why we actively recruit, retain and support the best coaches for all of our 24 sports.
Athletic performance resources. Our Excellence Academy provides every IU student-athlete with the resources necessary to reach his or her absolute highest athletic potential.
The Excellence Academy integrates:
Each student-athlete is provided with a comprehensive, personalized and effective approach to athletic performance improvement, health, safety and wellness. Through partnerships with the IU Department of Kinesiology, the academy also integrates biomechanics and motor learning to provide individual assessments and improvement plans for our student-athletes and coaches.
Facilities. Competitive facilities are vital to any successful collegiate athletic program. We at Indiana University Athletics are committed to developing and providing facilities that honor our traditions and enable our student-athletes to train and compete at the highest echelon.
Fan support. A critical component of IU's athletic success, fans keep our teams energized and help us generate revenue for IU. That's why we engage in vigorous, innovative marketing for all of our programs.
Student-athlete well-being. In order to compete at their best, student-athletes need to be physically and mentally strong. Our programs are supported in this regard by our world-class sports medicine and athletic training staffs, sports psychologists and certified sports nutritionist as well as the academic and life-skills support staff. Student-athletes also have the opportunity to express their voice within our department through, among other things, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
