    BLOOMINGTON, Ind.
    - The IU Athletics capital campaign Leadership Council and Steering Committee got a first-hand view on Tuesday of the new North End Zone Facility currently under construction at Memorial Stadium. The two groups conducted a hard-hat tour of the construction site and met to evaluate the building's progress and overall performance of the For the Glory of Old IU capital campaign.

"It's stunning," said Jane Hoeppner, wife of late head football coach, Terry Hoeppner. "When I saw the coaches offices, all I could think was this was Terry's dream. I'm so grateful that he left this as part of his legacy. This was so clearly part of his vision for IU football."

The North End Zone Facility is part of the first major comprehensive capital campaign by the IU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. The goal of the campaign is to raise $80 million in private support for new and improved athletic facilities, endowment and on-going annual support of student-athlete scholarships. To date, more than $65 million has been donated in support of this five-year campaign.

The North End Zone Facility broke ground in July 2007 and is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2009. Once completed, the facility will transform Memorial Stadium into a horseshoe layout connecting the East and West stands. This new 100,000-square-foot multi-purpose facility will feature a 24,000 state-of-the-are strength and conditioning center and the Hall of Champions, a banquet and entertaining space with displays celebrating achievements in IU Athletics. The North End Zone Facility will also include new football offices and meeting rooms, staff and administration offices and a team auditorium.

You can't believe the size of it until you're in it," said Leadership Council member Steve Henke. "The enormity of it is amazing. It's a real investment for the future, not just for football, but also for Indiana University."

The Leadership Council and Steering Committee are both appointed volunteer groups comprised of former athletes, Varsity Club donors, and members of the Varsity Club National Board of Directors. The Leadership Council assists with high-level decisions related to the campaign while the Steering Committee provides assistance in the cultivation major gifts for the campaign.

Major naming and gift opportunities are still available for the North End Zone Facility. To support this and other new facilities being planned, please contact the IU Varsity Club at 812-855-0866 or varsity@indiana.edu. More information can also be found on the Capital Campaign website.
