Academic Resource Center
For today's student athletes, training and conditioning is a year-round commitment. Balancing the rigors of competing at the collegiate level with the demands of the classroom is one of the greatest challenges our student athletes face. That is why it is so essential that we provide our student athletes with access to hands-on academic support. While our athletic programs have significantly expanded in recent years, our academic resources have not. Currently, our 2,500-square-foot academic resource center must serve more than 640 student athletes each year. Yet it lacks classrooms, study areas and the type of modern technology center that prepares students for today's digital workplace.
The new Academic Resource Center, to be located underneath the east side of Memorial Stadium, will help us provide student athletes with these essential resources. The 25,800-square-foot layout will repurpose existing space while dramatically expanding the facility to provide more computers, study areas and offices for private sessions. The expanded facility will also ensure that all student athletes get the assistance they need to make the most of their academic careers.
The Academic Resource Center will utilize space formerly occupied by IU Football in Memorial Stadium. Remodeling of the space will be completed in spring 2010.
