Baseball and Softball Stadiums

"It will enable us to recruit a higher caliber student athlete and ultimately enjoy greater success than ever before."
-- Tracy Smith, IU Baseball Head Coach

Geography and climate make IU the most baseball- and softball-friendly school in the Big Ten. Mild winters in Bloomington mean that the Hoosiers should be able to take the field earlier in the spring than other teams and practice later into the fall. In reality, with nine of the 11 Big Ten schools completing major renovations to their athletic facilities, IU players and coaches are now at a disadvantage. Limited space at the current baseball and softball stadiums means we are unable to add valuable year-round training resources like indoor batting cages. Nor is there room to expand fan amenities like parking and seating.
With new baseball and softball stadiums, to be located northeast of the Mellencamp Pavilion, the Hoosiers will be able to confidently recruit top prospects and contend for championships in a first-rate environment. For Hoosier fans, both facilities will provide a comfortable and convenient setting to enjoy the excitement of the game. These multi-use venues will also enable IU to host Big Ten and NCAA tournaments, bringing national prestige and recognition to our programs.
HOK Sport of Kansas City is responsible for the architectural planning and design of both stadiums. Once construction is underway, it will be completed quickly, as these are outdoor venues.
