Jan. 25, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University's Crimson all-female cheerleading squad made it two-in-a-row for national championships at the 2013 UCA College National Cheer & Dance Championships Saturday, Jan. 19, in Orlando, Fla.
In winning a second straight national title in the All-Girl division, the Crimson Squad beat out Minnesota, Rutgers, South Florida, San Diego State, Oklahoma and Florida State. The national champions were honored during halftime of the Jan. 23 Indiana-Penn State Big Ten Basketball game when they presented the national trophy to vice president and athletics director Fred Glass. The newest trophy now is displayed in the Assembly Hall North Lobby trophy cases with other cheerleading program trophies. Program coaches are head coach Julie Horine, Tony Nash, Jeff Cox and Megan Grimes.
"This back-to-back national championship is a really outstanding accomplishment for the cheerleading program," said head coach Julie Horine. "It culminates many hours of practice and preparation that started with selections last April in Bloomington."
Additionally, Crimson Squad members Angela Stilwell, Caity Hinshaw, Natalie Skizas, Kirby Lynch and Chrissie Day were selected to the 2013 Team USA All-Girl which will seek to defend its World Championship gold medal in April at Orlando. Stilwell and Hinshaw have been on two gold medal Team USA squads while Skizas and Lynch were on last year's gold medal squad. This is Day's first national squad.
