Indiana track and field opened competition at a stormy Big Ten Outdoor Championships meet on Friday. Zach Mayhew took second place in the men's 10,000 meters and Courtney Woodard finished the day in third place in the heptathlon, highlighting the day for Indiana. Stormy conditions caused meet officials to issue a lightning delay that lasted two hours and move the women's pole vault competition to Saturday. After day one, the Indiana men are in fifth place with eight points.

Freshmen Sydney Clute and Cornelius Strickland have both been named Big Ten Athletes of the Week for their efforts at the Billy Hayes Invitational. Clute is the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week after her efforts in the pole vault, and Strickland is the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week after moving to number two in the conference in the 100m dash. Clute wins Indiana's third women's field athlete of the week award this outdoor season, and Strickland's honor is the first for an IU athlete on the track this year, joining Derek Drouin, who won the field award three times.

The Big Ten Outdoor Championships await the Hoosiers in Columbus, Ohio this weekend. The Hoosiers will lace them up with a Big Ten Championship trophy on the line on Friday, Saturday and Sunday May 10-12. The meet will be broadcast on BTN via tape delay on May 19 at 1 p.m. ET. Indiana track and field got big time performances in several spots at the regular season-ending Billy Hayes Invitational on Friday. Highlighting the meet for the Hoosiers were Darius King in the high jump, Sydney Clute in the pole vault and Cornelius Strickland in the 100-meter dash. All three Hoosiers moved up on Big Ten and national lists with their performances.

Derek Drouin has reeled in two more honors in his historic 2013 campaign, as the Penn Relays named him Outstanding Men's Individual Event Athlete of the 2013 Penn Relay Carnival and the Big Ten has named him Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week for the sixth time this year, after Drouin broke the meet record to win the men's high jump. Drouin becomes Indiana's second athlete to garner the Penn Relays accolade, joining Robert Cannon, who took the honor in 1978 after taking the triple jump title.

The Billy Hayes Invitational has served as the regular season finale for Indiana Track & Field since its inaugural meeting in 1978. This season, the 35th annual BIlly Hayes Invitational will provide the Hoosiers with one final tune up before the Big Ten Outdoor Championships on May 10-12. The meet begins at 2 p.m. ET on Friday, May 3 at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex.

Indiana track and field closed action at the Penn Relays on Saturday. Derek Drouin broke a 37-year old facility record to win his third Penn Relays watch in the high jump. IU took second in the 4xMile Championship of America and got two other top-five finishes on the meet's final day.

Indiana track and field competed at the Penn Relays on Friday and IU had a good day, qualifying for the Championship of America in the 4x100m relay, getting a second place finish from Derek Messmer in the pole vault, taking third in the shuttle hurdles Championship of America, and getting an incredible 3:55.6 anchor from Andy Bayer for fourth in the Distance Medley Relay Championship of America.

Emma Kimoto and Derek Drouin both posted IU records in the high jump at the Polytan Invitational, and they have both garned Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honors for their efforts, the conference announced. Kimoto became Indiana's first female to clear six feet outdoors, and Drouin matched the school record he set a year ago, this time at home, breaking the Robert C. Haugh Complex record.

The Penn Relay Carnival is the longest continuously run college track meet in the world and annually draws some of the best crowds in the world for a track meet. The Hoosiers have a steep tradition at the meet, including 13 Championship of America Relay Championships and four Penn Relays Wall of Famers, but IU will look to end a long drought this weekend as the last of those titles came in 1954. The meet begins on Thursday and concludes on Saturday, which live coverage available at ThePennRelays.com and on NBC on Saturday.

Indiana track and field hosted the Polytan Invitational on Saturday, and several Hoosiers posted big-time performances. Derek Drouin increased his world lead in the high jump, Andy Bayer moved into the nation's top five in the 1,500m, and Emma Kimoto cleared a school record to enter the nation's top 10 in the high jump.

The Polytan Invitational is the first outdoor home meet of the season for IU Track and Field. The meet will feature Notre Dame, Ball State, Butler, South Florida and others. Action will begin at 4:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, with the women's hammer throw and men's javelin starting things off in the field. As always, admission is free for regular season IU track meets. Indiana track and field competed at the Border Battle on Saturday, teaming with Notre Dame to take on Louisville and Kentucky in a state vs. state battle. The "Commonwealth" prevailed over the "Hoosierland" in the meet on the men's and women's sides, breaking a two-year win streak by IU and Notre Dame and evening the series to two wins for both sides over the four years of the meet. The women's meet came down to two points, with the Commonwealth prevailing 101-99, and the Commonwealth's men took the meet 103-97. Indiana scored 50 of the 97 points for the men.

A trip to Louisville for the fourth annual Kentuckiana Border Battle is next on the schedule for Indiana track and field. The Hoosiers will join forces with Notre Dame to take on Kentucky and Louisville in a battle for state bragging rights. The meet is scored state versus state, and the Hoosierland has taken both the men's and women's titles the past two seasons after the Commonwealth of Kentucky swept the inaugural meet. The bulk of the meet takes place between 1 p.m. ET and 6 p.m. ET, with some field event action beginning at 10:30 a.m. ET.
