Emma Kimoto Added a Title in the Women's High Jump
The postseason begins this weekend for Indiana track and field, as the Hoosiers head to Geneva, Ohio for the Big Ten Indoor Championships. For the second-straight year, the conference's men's and women's meets are being held together simultaneously in the same venue. The meet opens on Fri., Feb. 22 and concludes on Sat., Feb. 23 with action beginning at 10 a.m. ET on both days. The meet will be broadcast on Big Ten Network via tape delay at noon ET on March 2.
Hoosiers Robby Nierman, Sydney Clute, Cornelius Strickland and Samantha Ginther each enter the Big Ten meet with different levels of experience and expectations. We caught up with all four to discuss their goals for the weekend.
2013-14 (SOPHOMORE): Indoor: finished in ninth-place in the 60m dash at the Big Ten Indoor Championships in 6.89...ran a season-best time of 6.84 in the prelim of the 60m at the Big Ten Championships. Outdoor: finished in second-place in the 200m dash at the Crimson Tide Invitational in 21.47...ran a season-best time of 21.12 to win the Billy Hayes Invitational...finished in 12th place at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in the 100m dash in 10.70...qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round and finished in 32nd place in the 100m in 10.70...ran a season-best of 10.55 in the 100m dash to finish in second-place at the Billy Hayes Invitational.
2012-13 (FRSHMAN): Indoor: took the Hoosier Open win in the 60-meter dash in a time of 6.87...finished in seventh-place at the Big Ten Indoor Championships in the 60-meter dash in 6.83...advanced to the final of the 200-meter dash at the Big Ten Indoor Championship and finished seventh in 21.62...Outdoor: won the 100-meter dash at the Louisville Border Battle in 10.56...lowered his time in the 100-meter dash to a season-best of 10.35 for a second-place finish at the Billy Hayes Invitational...finished in eighth-place in the 200-meter dash at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in a time of 21.91...season-best of 20.96 in the 200 to finish in second-place at the Louisville Border Battle...advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary Round and finished 31st in the 200-meter dash in 21.25.
PREP:Runner-up at State meet in 100m (10.89) in his junior year to Indiana teammate Nick Stoner ... 3rd place at State meet in 200m (21.78) in his junior year ... broke regional meet record in 100m (10.43) ... state qualifier senior year ... honor roll all four years ... citizenship award... finished academically among the top-20 in his graduating class ... three-time all-stater in track ... all-state football team selection ... holds school records in 100m (10.43), 200m (21.27), and 400 (48.61) ... also earned varsity letters in football.
