Mayhew, Bayer, Ginther Move Up 3K Lists

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana track and field closed out the Hoosier Hills with big times in the men's and women's 3,000m invitationals. Zach Mayhew and Andy Bayer finished 1-2 in the men's race with the top two times in the Big Ten, and Samantha Ginther took the conference lead as well, winning the women's race.
Mayhew won the 3,000m invitational with a time of 7:51.61, edging Bayer at the line, who clocked a time of 7:51.75. The two Hoosiers rank first and second in the Big Ten this season in the event and third and fourth nationally. Mayhew shed more than 11 seconds off his career best to move into third on the all-time IU list. Nolan Fife took third in 8:04.06, which ranks fourth in the Big Ten this season.
Ginther won the women's 3,000m invitational in 9:20.02, taking the Big Ten lead on the season and moving into 18th on the national list. She took the lead at the bell and put a second between herself and Stephanie Jefferson of New Balance. Ginther's time is a three-second PR and ranks fifth in IU history.
Cornelius Strickland took second in the 60m dash finals in 6.93 seconds.
