AUSTIN, Texas – Freshman Ari Nelson and sophomore Sophie Gutermuth set career-bests in the long jump and pole vault on day three at the 87th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Nelson started the day for the Hoosiers with a strong performance in the long jump. After making the final in the event, Nelson wasted little time as she jumped 6.16m (20-2.5) on her first jump.

Nelson, who won her section of the long jump competition, set the seventh best mark in IU school history and ninth best mark in the NCAA this season.

In the night session sophomore Sophie Gutermuth finished in third-place in the pole vault with a career-best clearance of 4.30m (14-1.25). That mark is the second best in IU school history and fourth best mark in the NCAA this season.

Also competing in the pole vault, senior Kelsie Ahbe finished in fifth-place with a season best jump of 4.15m (13-7.25).

Earlier in the day sophomore Sarah Maxson finished in sixth-place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.75m (5-8.75). Senior Kyla Buckley fouled on her three throws in the shot put competition.

Up next the Hoosiers will split up the team next weekend. The majority of the group will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the Crimson Tide Invitational, with a few members making the trip to Palo Alto, Calif., for the Stanford Invitational. Both meets will take place April 4-5.
