Hoosiers Assault 5K Records at Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Indiana track and field completed a split day of competition with late 5,000m races at the Stanford Invitational. Andy Bayer took third in an elite men's 5,000m field.
In the fast heat of the men's 5,000m, Bayer clocked a time of 13:34.84 for third place. Zach Mayhew ran 13:41.95 for eighth. Mayhew's time ranks fifth in IU history. Bayer was just 1.7 seconds off his lifetime best in the event. IU alum Andrew Poore was second in 13:33.03.
In the women's 5,000m races, three Hoosiers moved into IU's all-time top 10 in the event. Samantha Ginther clocked a time of 16:15.34 and Kelsey Duerksen ran 16:18.24, moving to third and sixth all-time on the IU list from the second heat. In the third heat, Erica Ridderman ran 16:30.79, which ranks 10th in IU history.
