    Gutermuth Wins on Day One at Penn

    PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Indiana track and field opened competition at the Penn Relays on Thursday and got an event win from Sophie Gutermuth to go along with three more top-three finishes.

    IU went 1-2 in the college section of the women's pole vault as Gutermuth and Sydney Clute both cleared 3.90m (12-9.5). Gutermuth cleared the height on her first attempt to get the victory. The clearance moves Gutermuth to number six on IU's all-time list.

    Caitlin Engel took second in the women's 3,000m steeplechase, clocking a time of 10:20.69, which is just .01 seconds off her lifetime best. She now ranks fourth in the Big Ten this season.

    Sarah Maxson took third in the women's college high jump, clearing 1.75m (5-8.75) to match her season and lifetime best, which ranks sixth on IU's all-time list.

    In the women's 3,000m, Molly Winters ran a time of 9:47.35, which ranks 10th in IU history.

    An IU quartet of Kelsey Duerksen, Elise Hunter, Jordan Gray and Samantha Gwin ran a time of 11:29.07 for ninth in the women's distance medley relay Championship of America.
