Hoosiers Open Competition at NCAA East Prelim

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Junior Rorey Hunter highlighted the first day of competition for the Hoosiers as he qualified for the final of the men’s 1500m run on day one of the NCAA East Prelim on Thursday.
Hunter finished fifth in his heat of the 1500m to secure a spot in the final of the 1500m run as he crossed the finish line in 3:46.34, the 11th best time overall. Hunter will final in the final on Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
Redshirt freshman Nakel McClinton, who came in ranked 42nd in the women’s hammer throw posted a mark of 56.02m (183-9) to finish 27th in the event. Her throw is a career-best in the event and is the second best mark in school history. McClinton will compete tomorrow in the discus competition.
Sophomore Cornelius Strickland finished sixth in his heat of the 100m dash in 10.70. Strickland will compete tomorrow in the 200m dash. Redshirt sophomore Owen Skeete finished 11th in his heat of the 1500m run in 3:54.96.
Freshman Tre’Tez Kinnaird finished sixth in his heat of the 800m run in 1:49.33. Freshman Ari Nelson competed in the long jump and posted a mark of 5.82m. Redshirt junior Evan Esselink closed the day for the Hoosiers as he finished 29th in the 10,000m run in 30:51.
The Hoosiers will start the second day of competition tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. with the women’s pole vault.
