EUGENE, Ore. – Junior Rorey Hunter qualified for the final of the men’s 1500m run at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships Thursday at Hayward Field.
Hunter, the Big Ten Champion in the 1500m run, finished sixth in his heat in 3:41.66 to advance on time to the final, which will be contested on Saturday at 5:18 PM ET. The time for Hunter is the second fastest time of his career.
The top five in each heat of the two-heat semifinal plus the next two fastest times qualified for the final. Both time qualifiers came from Hunter’s second heat, where the top nine runners ran faster than anyone in heat one and the top eight were separated by only .66 seconds.
Day three of the national meet will get underway tomorrow as senior Kelsie Ahbe and sophomore Sydney Clute will compete in the pole vault at 6:15 PM ET. Redshirt freshman Matt Schwartzer will compete in the final of the men’s 5000m run at 9:10 PM ET.
