BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana track & field team welcomes over 1,200 athletes from more than 25 schools as they are set to host the Indiana Relays Friday and Saturday.

The meet gets underway Friday at 3:00 p.m. with the men’s weight through and the women’s 60m hurdles. Saturday things get started at 9:35 a.m. with the women’s 400m run morning section.

The men’s mile will feature two invitational sections with a combine seven professional athletes, including four IU track & field alumni. Those races will start at 8:10 p.m.

In the men’s 3,000-meter invitational section last weekend in the Gladstein Invitational it was a combination of current and past Hoosiers as IU alum Andrew Poore, running for Adidas, clocked a top-five time in the world as he won the event in 7:57.37. Sophomore Matt Schwartzer and freshman Jason Crist finished third and fourth in the race, in 8:05.77 and 8:06.63 respectively. Their times were the third and fourth best times in the NCAA this season. Schwartzer was honored by the Big Ten this week by being named the Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week.

In field events, freshman Ari Nelson finished second in the women’s long jump with a mark of 5.90m (19-4.25 ft.) and sophomore Sarah Maxson recorded an indoor personal record in the high jump with a mark of 1.73m (5-8 ft.) for third-place. Maxson’s jump is the eighth best in school history for the indoor high jump.
