Hoosiers Open Outdoor Season at 49er Classic

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – After closing the indoor season last week at the NCAA Championships the Indiana track & field team hits the road and travels to Charlotte, N.C. for the 49er Classic March 21-22 hosted by UNC-Charlotte.
The Hoosiers will get things started with Nakel McClinton in the women’s hammer throw on Friday at 11:00 a.m. The first running event will be the men’s 110m hurdle prelims at 1:25 p.m. Saturday freshman Danielle Quinn will begin competition for Indiana in the women’s triple jump at 11:00 a.m. The first running event on Saturday will be the women’s 4X100-meter relay also at 11:00 a.m.
The Hoosiers earned five All-America honors in Albuquerque, N.M. at the NCAA Indoor Championships with the men’s distance medley relay team taking third-place (sixth consecutive All-America honors for IU distance medley relay) and senior Kyla Buckley finished in ninth-place in the shot put. Buckley was competing in her third straight NCAA Championship and improved on her 16th and 17th place finishes at the indoor and outdoor championships last year.
Indiana will travel the majority of their team for this first meet of the outdoor season as many have not competed since the Big Ten Indoor Championships Feb. 28-March 1 in Geneva, Ohio.
