On the latest episode of Outside The Lanes with IU Track & Field senior Samantha Ginther shares her love of baking and makes one of her favorite pies, a Strawberry Rhubard pie that her gradmother taught her how to make.

Ginther demonstrates how to make the pie and shares the recipe below.

    Never Fail Pie Crust

    3 cups all-purpose flour
    1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    1 cup shortening
    1 egg
    5 Tbsp. cold water
    1 tsp. vinegar
Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in shortening until mixture is fine. Beat egg with vinegar and water. Pour liquid over dry ingredients, mix, and roll out on floured board or wax paper. Or store in refrigerator until you are ready to use.
    Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Filling
    1 cup granulated sugar
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    2-3 cups rhubarb, chopped
2 cups sliced strawberries (frozen, if possible)
    2.5 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
    1/4 cup orange juice
Combine all ingredients together in a large bowl and mix.
Roll out about half the pie crust dough using a rolling pin and transfer to a pie pan. Add the filling. Then roll out the other half of the dough and put the layer on top of the pie. Bake at 400 degrees F for 40-50 min. Enjoy!
