    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana track & field team will send 21 student-athletes to Jacksonville, Fla., for the NCAA East Preliminary Round May 29-31, for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.

     

    The top-48 athletes in the East and West regions qualified for preliminary round competition and the top-12 at those region meets will qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

     

    The Hoosiers will get things started with Nakel McClinton in the women's hammer throw on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. IU will also be represented in the women's long jump (6:30 p.m.), men's 1500m (5:30 p.m.), men's 100m (6:30 p.m.), men's 800m (8:10 p.m.) and men's 10,000m (9:00 p.m.). Friday will have Hoosiers in the women's pole vault, women's discus and women's high jump. On the track will be the quarterfinal of the 800m run, 3,000m steeplechase races and the 200m dash.  

     

    The final day of competition will have the potential for IU to compete in the men's 1500m quarterfinal, men's and women's 5000m races, men's pole vault and women's shot put.

    LAST TIME OUT

    The Indiana track & field team continued the outdoor season by traveling to West Lafayette, Ind., for the 2014 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships May 16-18.

     

    Rorey Hunter and Kyla Buckley won Big Ten Titles for the Hoosiers. Buckley set a Big Ten Outdoor Championships record to win the shot put with a throw of 17.19m (56'4.75"). It was her second Big Ten Championship this season to follow up her indoor title. Hunter continued his strong season by winning the 1,500m run in 3:44.59. Hunter gave IU their fourth straight Big Ten Outdoor Championship title in the 1500m run. For the throwing program, Buckley won the eighth Big Ten shot put title since 2009 and became the 11th Hoosiers to win multiple shot put titles.

     

    The Hoosiers got silver medal performances from three athletes with senior Kelsie Ahbe (pole vault), senior Robby Nierman (3,000-meter steeplechase) and freshman Tre'tez Kinnaird (800m run). Ahbe vaulted a mark of 4.08m, Nierman ran a season-best time of 8:49.72 and Kinnaird, who led most of the race, finished in 1:48.72.

     

    Senior Samantha Ginther finished in the top-five in two races. Ginther finished fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and followed up that performance with a fourth-place finish in the 5,000m run.
