    Ginther, Ahbe Earn Academic Honors

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Seniors Samantha Ginther and Kelsie Ahbe have exceled on the track and in the classroom and have been honored by being named to the Capital One College Sport Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team for Track & Field and Cross Country.

     

    Ginther, a native of Ft. Wayne, Ind., is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Professional Health Education and has maintained a 4.0 GPA this year.

     

    Ginther started the season off strong in cross country where she finished in seventh-place at the Big Ten Championships and 10th at the Great Lakes Regional Championships to earn First Team All-Big Ten and All-Region honors. Ginther led the Indiana women's cross country team to their best finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships since 2002. In the spring Ginther finished in fourth-place at the Big Ten Championships in the 5,000-meter run and fifth-place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

     

    Ahbe, a native of Uniontown, Ohio, is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Public Health Administration and is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

     

    Ahbe captured the pole vault title at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and is the IU school record holder in the indoor pole vault with a best of 4.21m. This spring, Ahbe finished runner-up at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships and has a season best mark of 4.35m, which is second best in IU school history.

     

    Ginther and Ahbe will both compete this weekend at the NCAA East Preliminary Round with a chance to qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
