Hoosiers at the Trials: Milt Campbell
June 24, 2012
EUGENE, Ore. - The Indiana University Track and Field program is one of the most historic in the U.S., and with an Olympic history as deep as that of the Hoosiers, the Olympic Trials are sure to bring out famous alumni. Along with 14 current and former Hoosiers competing this weekend, one of the featured USA Track and Field guests this weekend is IU legend Milt Campbell (pictured at the right with Chris Vaughn).
An Olympian in 1952 and 1956, Campbell won silver and then gold in the decathlon. As a Hoosier, he played football and ran track before playing for the NFL's Cleveland Browns and the CFL's Montreal Alouettes. Campbell was a member of the induction class into the IU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1982.
Action continues at the trials on Monday with Molly Beckwith running the finals of the 800 meters and Sarah Pease and De'Sean Turner running in the trials of the women's and men's 3,000m steeplechase. For complete coverage of Indiana Track and Field, stay tuned to IUHoosiers.com.
