Road To London Starts in Calgary for Four Hoosiers
June 27, 2012
While the U.S. Olympic Trials are well underway in Oregon, that isn't the only place that Hoosiers are pursuing an Olympic dream. The Canadian Olympic Trials begin in Calgary on Wednesday and continue through Saturday. Four Hoosiers will compete at the meet, looking to make the Canadian Olympic Team and don the Maple Leaf in London.
Derek Drouin is entered in the men's high jump tied for the top seed. He and Michael Mason are the only Canucks with the Olympic A standard, and a top three finish would send both to London.
Ben Hubers in entered in the 5,000 meters with the third fastest seed time entering the meet.
Emma Kimoto is entered in the women's high jump with the fifth-best mark by a Canadian this year. The top female jumper in Canada is Jillian Drouin, who is the sister of Derek.
Arianne Raby is entered in the 1,500 meters. Her time of 4:22.68 ranks 14th in Canada this year.
