Neeley To Run at Pan Am Juniors
Aug 22, 2013
Incoming IU freshman Bethany Neeley moved into her dorm in Bloomington on Sunday, but she didn't have much time to settle in as she left Tuesday morning for Medellin, Colombia with Team USA. The Greentown, Ind., native will run the 3,000m steeplechase this weekend at the Pan American Junior Championships. Neeley races at 7:20 p.m. ET on Sunday, Aug. 25.
Neeley is the first IU representative at the Pan Am Junior Championships since Derek Drouin won the high jump crown at the meet in 2009. Neeley punched her ticket to Colombia by taking second at the USA Track and Field Championships in her very first 3,000m steeplechase race. Her time of 10:19.83 is the third-fastest time ever by a U.S. high schooler and the state record for Indiana high schoolers. Neeley's time was her third Indiana high school state record over the course of 14 days, as she broke state records in the 4x800 relay, 1,600m, 2,000m steeplechase and the 3,000m steeplechase.
