BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Indiana University Athletics Compliance Office focuses much of its time and attention on the monitoring and education of booster interaction with prospective student-athletes and current student-athletes with eligibility remaining. However, we would be remiss if April and May go by without a brief reminder as it relates to student-athletes finishing their athletics careers and graduating seniors. Please remember that the extra benefit legislation continues to apply to this group in the same way it applies to current student-athletes.

A specific and very timely example is the provision of senior student-athlete and graduation gifts by fans and boosters. NCAA rules prohibit student-athletes from accepting graduation and senior gifts (i.e. gift cards, cash, and tangible items) at the completion of their athletics careers in the same way current student-athletes are prohibited from accepting the same. Remember, once a student-athlete, always a student-athlete.

Should you have specific questions regarding senior and graduation gifts provided to student-athletes, please do not hesitate to contact the IU Athletics Compliance Office at, or visit the compliance website. Thank you for your continued support of IU Athletics and helping us play by the rules.
