BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - This fall, the new North End Zone Facility at Memorial Stadium will feature an opportunity for IU fans to become a permanent part of IU Athletics. The IU Varsity Club announced today that fans will be able to etch their name into the history of Memorial Stadium with a customized brick paver.
Glory Plaza, at the new north entrance of the stadium, will soon feature brick pavers that can be personalized with individual and company names, dates and special messages. The 4" x 8" and 8" x 8" engraved bricks are a way to recognize and honor families, alumni and special IU memories.
"This year is the 125th year of IU Football," head football coach Bill Lynch said. "We are excited to bring back athletes from the past and also showcase this new facility. Personalized bricks are a great way to show your support and have your name seen by thousands of fans every game day."
Each brick will be permanently displayed on the walkway of Glory Plaza. Costs for the 4" x 8" plaza bricks are $100. The larger 8" x 8" bricks are available for $300 with personalized inscription and $325 with the IU logo and inscription.
"For more than 30 years, Memorial Stadium has been home to great coaches, athletes, legends and teams. They all left their mark on Indiana University," added director of athletics Fred Glass. "The new North End Zone Facility will be a gateway to the next generation of traditions and legends and its fitting that Glory Plaza will also allow our fans to show their pride and leave their own lasting tribute."
Brick donations are 100 percent tax deductible and considered as charitable gifts to the For the Glory of Old IU campaign for IU Athletics. Brick paver contributions are also eligible for IU Varsity Club Priority Points used for the allocation of seating at football and basketball games.
In addition to plaza bricks, IU alumni and fans can also order commemorative replicas of their brick to keep for themselves or to give as gifts. Replicas will be available for $50 (4" x 8"), $65 (8" x 8" inscription only) and $75 (8" x 8" inscription with IU logo).
All brick orders received by August 15th will be installed prior to the October 3rd Ohio State game, the dedication game for the new North End Zone Facility. Future brick installations will be ongoing.
The For the Glory of Old IU campaign is the first comprehensive capital campaign in IU Athletics history. The goal of the campaign is $80 million for student-athlete facility projects and renovations, endowment and on-going annual support of student-athlete scholarships. To date, more than $67 million has been raised in support of the campaign. The campaign began in July 2006 and continues through June 2010.
