When you contribute to the Annual Giving Campaign for Student-Athletes, you are helping IU to compete with other Big Ten universities for the most talented student-athletes. Your support translates into tuition, room and board, books, and other necessities that are part of an IU education. One hundred percent of your donation goes to support scholarship opportunities for IU student-athletes. That means giving a start to student-athletes who will lead first in athletic competition, then in their careers and communities.
When you commit to providing scholarship opportunities to student-athletes at IU, you receive a number of Varsity Club donor benefits and are eligible to receive priority points used for the allocation of seats at football and basketball games. It's our way of saying thanks for giving IU student-athletes the opportunity to make the big moments happen in the classroom and on game day.
Important Giving Information for the 2012-2013 Giving Year
Annual Giving Campaign donors contribute annually to one of eight giving levels. With the cost of tuition and supplies increasing at a rate of around five percent per year, the annual giving program is critical to IU's ability to recruit and retain top-notch student athletes. For the first time in nine years and recognizing the need for further student-athlete support, the Varsity Club National Board of Directors voted to increase many of the Varsity Club's annual giving levels and associated priority points beginning July 1, 2012.
Donors wishing to remain at the Hoosier Cream & Crimson, Hoosier Big Red, Hoosier Hundred, Hoosier Athlete, Hoosier Scholar and Hoosier Champion giving levels will want to make the following contributions. Giving levels for our Loyalty and Fan donors will not change.
Annual Giving Fund Levels
| Hoosier Champion | $25,000 |
| Hoosier Scholar | $12,000 |
| Hoosier Athlete | $6,000 |
| Hoosier Hundred | $3,500 |
| Hoosier Big Red | $1,500 |
| Hoosier Cream & Crimson | $800 |
| Hoosier Loyalty | $300 |
| Hoosier Fan | $100 |
Annual contributions in excess of the scholarship bill may be used to support current needs of the athletic program, at the discretion of the Athletic Director in consultation with the Varsity Club National Board of Directors.
President of the Varsity Club National Board Joe Ford remarked on the change. "Since 2004, the Varsity Club has done a tremendous job fundraising during these tough economic times," said Ford. "We have cultivated many new dedicated donors while also cutting costs whenever and wherever possible. This increase in giving levels was not done lightly or without much research and consideration. In the end, we felt this move was essential to the Varsity Club's mission."
Because your support is also critical to the mission of the Varsity Club, we have not modified the annual benefit chart. We are also pleased to announce that we are increasing the number of non accumulative priority points you will receive with your Varsity Club donations beginning July 1, 2012. Because football and basketball seats are assigned based on the total number of points each Varsity Club member has accumulated, we hope this modification in point value will continue to improve your game-day experience.
