    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana cross country season officially kicked off with the Indiana Open on Saturday morning in Bloomington. Both men's and women's teams accomplished what they set out to do in their first run on the IU Championship Cross Country Course for 2012.


    Indiana's Evan Esselink crossed the finish line first, running the 8K course in 25:32.6. He was followed by three other Hoosiers, which all finished within a minute of each other. Robby Nierman came in second with a time of 25:49.6. Nate Morrow followed in 25:57.6 and JR Ricker clocked in at 26:16.2 in fourth place.

    In the women's race, Kelsey Duerksen won the 5K in 18:48.6. Indiana's Molly Hirt came in second, clocking in at 19:00.8 as Molly Winters followed her in third at 19:17.4.

    The Hoosiers will return to action on Friday, Sept. 14, in the annual Indiana Intercollegiate meet. That race will take place in Terre Haute, Ind., and begin at 3:30 p.m. ET.
