Indiana Men's XC Team and Duerksen Earn Bids to NCAAs
Nov. 10, 2012
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The NCAA announced the at-large team bids and individual qualifiers for the national championships, which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 17, in Louisville, Ky. The Indiana men's team finds itself in the field for the third straight year and Kelsey Duerksen will run as an individual qualifier in the women's race.
The IU men finished third at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet on Friday. Seniors Andy Bayer and Zach Mayhew automatically qualified as individuals with second and fourth place finishes, respectively, but the team had to wait until Saturday's announcement to find out if the entire squad would be running. The Hoosiers finished in seventh place nationally in both 2010 and 2011.
Duerksen finished in 14th position in the regional meet on Friday. She ran the 6K race in 20:47 and becomes the second Hoosier in as many years to qualify for the NCAA Championships as an individual qualifier. Samantha Ginther represented the IU women last year.
The NCAA Championships will be hosted by the University of Lousivlle next Saturday at E.P. `Tom" Sawyer State Park. The women's race will begin at Noon ET with the men following at 1:15 p.m. ET.
