Nov. 13, 2013
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana cross country teams will head to Madison, Wis. to compete in the 2013 NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday, Nov. 15. The University of Wisconsin will serve as host once again for the regional meet this year.
The meet will be held at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course. The men's 10K run will get things started at 1 p.m. ET, followed by the women's 6K race at 2:15 p.m. The top two teams in each race will earn automatic bids into the NCAA Championships on Nov. 23. The top four individual finishers from non-advancing teams will also earn a spot in the national meet. At-large teams advancing on will be selected after regional.
The No. 11 and Big Ten champion Indiana men's cross country team hopes to keep the momentum from the conference title going into the weekend. The Hoosiers won the program's first Big Ten Cross Country title since 1980. The IU men have advanced on to the NCAA Championships in each of the last three years and hopes of making it a fourth-straight trip in 2013.
For the IU women, the Hoosiers are looking for their first trip to the NCAA Championships since 2009. The Indiana women's team was ranked as high as No. 21 this season, the program's highest ranking since 2004. Samantha Ginther ran her way to First Team All-Big Ten honors (seventh place) at the conference meet on Nov. 3 and she will race in her final cross country regional on Friday.
