Aaron Kerns is in his first season as the Hoosiers' volunteer coach and second year with the program. The Middletown, Ohio, native served as the graduate manager during the 2010 season.
Kerns played for Coach Billy Gernon at IPFW for three seasons (2006-08) before coming to Bloomington. He played in a total of 113 games for the Mastodons, hitting .342 as a sophomore. Kerns was a three-time all-academic performer while splitting time between second base and left field.
Prior to enrolling at IPFW, Kerns played at Wabash Valley Junior College for one season (2005). In his lone campaign with Wabash Valley, the Warriors won over 40 games and were nationally ranked while Kerns played middle infield and hit over .350.
Kerns returned his high school alma mater, Middletown High (Ohio), in 2009 to work as the hitting coach and assistant coach.
As IU's volunteer coach, Kerns is responsible for working with the outfielders, assisting hitters and filling the role of first base coach. He will graduate with a master's degree in Sport Administration and Management following the '11 spring semester.
