    BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana baseball team extended its win streak to five games with a 6-3 victory over IPFW on Saturday to move to 9-8 on the season. Tyler Tufts struck out a career-high seven and earned the win, while Doug Fleenor pitched the final three innings to earn the save. Four different Hoosiers clubbed two hits in the contest.

    Reigning Big Ten Player of the Week Andrew Means again led the offense for IU, going 2-for-4 with two runs and his team-leading 12th stolen base. Tyler Cox, Evan Crawford and Reid Briglia also went 2-for-4 in the contest, while Josh Richardson stole two bases for IU. Tufts went six innings, allowing nine hits and one walk, as just one of his three runs allowed was earned. Fleenor allowed three hits in his three innings of work.

    After IPFW scored a run in the top of the first, IU got on the board quickly as well, plating three runs in the bottom of the inning. Richardson and Jon Fixler drew back-to-back walks to put two runners on and one out in the inning. Briglia followed by smoking a 1-2 pitch down the right-field line for a double to score Richardson and smove Fixler to third. After Fixler scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Phegley, Cox sent Briglia home on a single up the middle to make the tally 3-1.

    Indiana extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth, plating two runs on three singles. Means extended his hitting streak to six games with an infield single to third and promptly swiped second. Crawford drove him with an RBI single to left then Crawford stole second as well. The freshman came home when Sterling Mack slapped a Cole Uebelhor offering into left for his fifth RBI of the season.



    The Mastodons drew within two with a pair of unearned runs in the top of the sixth. After Nick Diem singled with one out, Ryan Beer hit a grounder to Crawford, and the freshman threw wide to second as he tried to turn the double play to advance the runners to second and third. Nick Millspaugh walked to load the bases, but Tufts knocked down a line drive off the bat of Aaron Kerns and retired Diem at home for the second out of the inning. Jason Doerffler followed by rapping a single up the middle to score a pair and an infield single by Mark Carden loaded the bases again. Quentin Brown lined a Tufts offering to center, and Means came through with a diving catch to keep IU up 5-3.

    The Hoosiers added an insurance run in the eighth, with Means using his speed again. The sophomore beat out a high bouncer down to third to earn his sixth straight multi-hit game. Crawford then looped a ball down the right field line that fell just fair, and Means scored on a Mack sacrifice fly to make the score 6-3.

    Uebelhor allowed 10 hits and two walks in eight innings to pick up the loss and fall to 1-3. Carden led the Mastodons with three hits in five trips to the plate.

    Indiana and IPFW will finish their weekend series on Sunday at 1 p.m. EDT. Matt Bashore (2-1, 1.99 ERA) is scheduled to face Donnie Sixt (0-3, 6.00 ERA) in the contest.
