BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - All nine Hoosier batters made their way to the plate in the first inning as Indiana (10-15) jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Xavier (9-15). It was all Musketeers from there though, scoring the next 11 runs and leaving Bloomington with an 11-3 victory.

Sembower Field has been very kind to Michael Basil so far in 2012. In the first two home games, Indiana's shortstop is 5-for-8 with a homerun and three runs scored. On Tuesday, Basil had a 3-for-5 performance at the dish. Justin Cureton and Collin McEnery weren't far behind, each stroking a pair of hits.

Cureton legged out an infield single to lead off the bottom of the first. The speedy center field then swiped his 11th bag of the season to move into scoring position. McEnery stepped into the box next and brought Cureton around the rest of the way, nearly decapitating the Xavier first baseman with a rocket down the right field line. Freshman Sam Travis wasted little time extending his hitting streak to 12 games, scoring McEnery by slapping an opposite field single to make it 2-0.

A Basil single and walk for Chad Clark followed, jamming the bases full of Hoosiers with two outs. Will Nolden recorded the easiest RBI there is, drawing a walk to push across Indiana's third run of the opening inning. Xavier's Adam Hall then locked in to strike out the next batter and end the threat.

Things, most notably the IU defense, started to get ugly in the third inning. The Musketeers evened the score in that frame before gradually increasing their lead as the game went on. Xavier would go on to score another in the fourth, fifth, and three runs in the sixth and eighth innings; multiple aided by five IU defensive errors.

Indiana's conference home opener is Friday, March 27. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 pm. A live video stream and live stats will be available for the series opener against Iowa on Friday, as well as the Saturday and Sunday contests with the Hawkeyes (both 1:05 pm starts).
