IOWA CITY, Iowa - Eric Arnett struck out a career-high 11 in a complete-game two-hitter against Iowa on Saturday, as the Indiana baseball team knocked off Iowa 5-1. Josh Phegley went 2-for-4 with a solo home run as the Hoosiers improved to 15-17 and remained atop the Big Ten at 5-2 in conference play. Indiana has won eight of its last 10 games.

Arnett collected his conference-leading seventh win of the year and dropped his earned run average to an even 2.00. The junior has thrown a complete game in each of his three Big Ten starts, allowing just 15 hits and striking out 27 in 28 innings of work.

Tyler Rogers had a pair of hits for Indiana for the second straight day, while Evan Crawford delivered a pivotal two-run single in the fourth inning. Jarred Hippen pitched well for the Hawkeyes in the loss, allowing just seven hits and two walks in seven innings, as he fell to 1-2 on the season.

The Hawkeyes drew first blood in the bottom of the second against Arnett. T.J. Cataldo ripped a double just inside the bag at first base with one out, and he was followed by Ryan Durant, who went the other way with a liner that tucked just to the left of the right-field line for an RBI double to put the home squad up 1-0. Arnett rebounded, though, striking out both Chett Zeise and Trevor Willis to end the inning. The back-to-back doubles were the only two hits of the day allowed by Arnett.

The top of the fourth saw the Hoosiers gain their first lead. Phegley led things off by blistering a line shot over the left-field wall for his ninth longball of the year. Two batters later, Jake Dunning walked, and he traded places with Kipp Schutz on a fielder's choice to leave a man at first with two down. Rogers followed with a double past the diving Kevin Hoef at third to put a pair of runners in scoring position. Crawford came through in a big spot by roping a single past shortstop to score two and put IU up 3-1 in the contest.

IU tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth on a pair of hits. Phegley started things with a single to left, and Alex Dickerson delivered him home on a double down the right-field line to make it 4-1. Dunning moved Dickerson to third base on a sac bunt and two batters later, the freshman scored on an RBI fielder's choice off the bat of Schutz to push IU's lead to 5-1.

Meanwhile, Arnett was nearly automatic, as he set down 10 straight Iowa batsmen after a leadoff walk in the third. He retired the side in order in the fourth and fifth, needing just 18 pitches to do so. The Hawkeyes got two men on in both the sixth and the eighth, but both times Arnett got Cataldo on groundouts to end the threat. He set down Iowa 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth to finish off the contest.

Indiana returns to action tomorrow against the Hawkeyes at 1:30 ct/2:30 ET. The contest will be televised live on the Big Ten Network. GameTracker and live audio for both games will also be available on IUHoosiers.com.
