    ILLINOIS STATE DEFEATS IU 8-4

    Homestead, Fla. - With a 5-4 lead the Illinois State Redbirds scored three runs in the eighth inning to break open a close game and to defeat Indiana 8-4. It was the Hoosiers second straight loss on their spring break trip and they are now 11-5 overall. Illinois State improves to 5-6. IU starter Zach McClellan took the loss and is now 1-2, while Redbird starter Neal Cotts is now 2-1.

    IU took a 3-2 lead in the third by scoring three runs. Vasilli Spanos' sac fly scored Benji Clause. Blake St. Clair then singled to center to plate Rich Berich and Eric Blakely. Illinois State then responded with two in the top of the fourth as Chris Groth hit a two-run home run over the right field fence.

    Vasilli Spanos and Blake St. Clair were both 2-3 with two RBIs to lead the IU offense.

    Indiana will play Quinnipac on Monday, March 13, 2000, at 2:15 p.m. EST.
