Spotlight on Kevin Leininger
After losing nine letterwinners from last season's squad, the Indiana baseball team welcomes 17 newcomers this season. In the coming weeks we will feature each IU newcomer leading up to the team's Feb. 22 opener against DePauw. Kevin Leininger is next up in the spotlight.
Leininger heads into his first season as a Hoosier after a dominant senior season at Toledo St. John's Jesuit High School. The 5-11 infielder was selected first team all-district, first team All-Toledo City League (TCL) and co-TCL Player of the Year as a senior.
The Perrysburg, Ohio, native's superlative 2004 came on the heels of a junior season where he was a first team All-TCL and a first team all-district honoree. Additionally, as a sophomore in 2002, he garnered second team All-TCL honors and second team all-district accolades.
A three-year letterwinner for head coach Ed Mouch, Leininger also played summer baseball for the Underwood Orr. The son of Alan and Margo Leininger has one brother, Andrew (23).
HEAD COACH BOB MORGAN ON LEININGER:
"Kevin had a very good fall offensively but needs to be a little more consistent defensively. As he improves his defense and continues to swing the bat, he will get some playing time."
