Leading up to the 2007 baseball season, IUHOOSIERS.com will profile all of the Hoosier newcomers for the upcoming year. The newcomer profile for Wednesday, Jan. 3, is of outfielder Tom Devero. Devero, who throws and hits lefty, will wear number 30 for Indiana in 2007.

Tom Devero joins the Hoosiers after playing two years for Paul Belo at Palatine High School in Palatine, Ill. Devero, a lefty hitter and thrower, will play outfield for the Hoosiers in the 2007 season.

Devero followed up a solid junior campaign with a stellar year as a senior in which he was named Mid-Suburban League West Conference Player of the Year and his team's MVP. Devero hit .410 as a senior, hitting six home runs and driving in a school-record 47 runs.

In his junior season, he hit .390 while drilling five home runs and notching 30 RBIs. Devero also posted a 6-3 season on the mound as a junior, and in both his junior and senior seasons he was named all-area. After his junior campaign, Devero was chosen to play for Team Illinois in the Midwest Classic.

Devero earned a total of eight letters from Palatine, playing basketball and football in addition to baseball. His brother Pat played baseball for Valparaiso a year ago. Devero plans to major in business at IU.
