Leading up to the 2007 baseball season, IUHOOSIERS.com will profile all of the Hoosier newcomers for the upcoming year. The newcomer profile for Friday, Jan. 5, is of pitcher Matt Bashore. Bashore, who throws and hits lefty, will wear number 19 for Indiana in 2007.

Pitcher Matt Bashore comes to Bloomington after being a standout pitcher for Tippecanoe High School in Tipp City, Ohio. The southpaw, who played under Bruce Cahill at Tippecanoe, earned three letters for the high school, in addition to two each in basketball and football.

Bashore burst onto the scene in his senior year, earning first team honors at both the all-conference and all-area levels. He also was awarded honorable mention from the all-state team in his native Ohio. Bashore also had a solid sophomore outing for Tippecanoe, posting one of the five lowest ERAs in the Dayton area in his first season under Cahill.

Bashore is not the first of his family to play college baseball, as his brother Brad played for the Air Force Academy and went on to coach the Falcons. He also has one sister, Jenny. The son of Gary and Mindy Bashore was born on April 6, 1988, and is planning to major in criminal justice at IU.
