After losing nine letterwinners from last season's squad, the Indiana baseball team welcomes 17 newcomers this season. In the coming weeks we will feature each IU newcomer leading up to the team's Feb. 22 opener against DePauw. Chris McCombs
is next up in the spotlight.
A three-year letterwinner for head coach Greg Gilbert, Chris McCombs attended Ballard High School in Louisville, Ky. At Ballard, McCombs was nominated to the all-district and all-region teams as a senior.
The 6-0, right-handed pitcher also played third base, hitting .481 and belting five home runs his senior season. Additionally, he compiled a 2.36 ERA on the mound.
In addition to starring on the diamond, McCombs played football for two seasons.
The son of Rich and Kathy McCombs has one brother, Curtis. Chris plans to study exercise science at IU.
HEAD COACH BOB MORGAN ON MCCOMBS:
"Chris has a very good fastball, excellent breaking ball and is working on commanding his change up. We feel Chris can give us some quality innings this year."
MCCOMBS ON CHOOSING IU:
"I came to IU because I felt it was a good opportunity for me to further my baseball career."
