Leading up to the 2007 baseball season, IUHOOSIERS.com will profile all of the Hoosier newcomers for the upcoming year. The newcomer profile for Monday, Jan. 8, is of pitcher Eric Arnett. Arnett, who throws and hits righty, will wear number 22 for Indiana in 2007.
Eric Arnett joins the Hoosiers in 2007 after playing for coach Don Schone at Watkins Memorial High School for four years. The native of Pataskala, Ohio, was a standout athlete in football and basketball at Watkins in addition to his baseball career.
Arnett was a standout both on the mound and in the batter's box in his senior year. He went 9-2 on the mound with a 1.52 ERA on the year, and hit .425 with 11 home runs at the plate. Following that performance, he was named Ohio Capital Conference Player of the Year.
Arnett was named all-conference and all-county in each of his final three seasons on the field. Additionally, he was an all-district selection in his junior and senior campaigns, and was named his team MVP in each. Following his senior season, he was chosen to play in Ohio's North-South all-star game.
Arnett was one of the top all-around athletes in school history after earning 10 letters at Watkins Memorial, as he garnered three all-conference selections in football and two in basketball in addition to his baseball laurels. He was selected all-district in both sports in his final two years at Watkins, and in his senior year he was an all-state selection in football. He holds the school records at Watkins in home runs for baseball, and in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns in football. He was named the Licking County Male Athlete of the Year in his final year at Watkins.
Arnett has one brother, Thomas, and one sister, Sarah. The son of Bill and Robin Arnett was born on Jan. 25, 1988, and plans to major in sports marketing and management.
