Newcomer Profile - Evan Crawford

Leading up to the 2007 baseball season, IUHOOSIERS.com will profile all of the Hoosier newcomers for the upcoming year. The newcomer profile for Monday, Jan. 15, is of shortstop Evan Crawford. Crawford, who throws and hits righty, will wear number 7 for Indiana in 2007.
Evan Crawford joins the Indiana baseball team in 2007 after earning three letters for Dave Starling at Reynoldsburg (Ohio) High School. Crawford was a standout in the batter's box and on the basepaths for Reynoldsburg, where he also played football.
Crawford finished his senior season with a .462 average, stealing 21 bases in 22 attempts on the year. He was named first team all-state for that effort, and was selected to the Columbus Dispatch All-Agonis team. He finished his career with 61 steals in 64 attempts and with a .410 batting average
His junior year was nearly as successful, as he hit .446 with 26 swipes in 28 attempts. He earned first team All-Ohio Capital Conference laurels, first team all-district honors and was selected his team's MVP in each of his final two seasons. As a sophomore, Crawford hit .345 and was 14-for-14 on the basepaths.
Crawford has one older brother, Merlon L. Crawford III, and plans on majoring in marketing at IU. The son of Kelly and Merlon L. Crawford Jr. and Janet Robinson was born on Aug. 5, 1988.
