Newcomer Profile - Jason Ferrell

Leading up to the 2007 baseball season, IUHOOSIERS.com will profile all of the Hoosier newcomers for the upcoming year. The newcomer profile for Wednesday, Jan. 17, is of pitcher Jason Ferrell. Ferrell, who throws and hits lefty, will wear number 3 for Indiana in 2007.
Jason Ferrell joins the Hoosiers for 2007 after earning three letters in baseball for Scott T. Manahann at Bishop Watterson High School. The Columbus, Ohio, native was a three-sport athlete for Bishop Watterson, earning a total of eight letters in basketball, football and baseball.
Ferrell had a stellar senior season in high school, going 10-1 with a 2.53 ERA and 84 strikeouts in just 58 innings. He struck out more than one-third of the 246 batters he faced on the season.
Following that senior season, Ferrell was named the district player of the year and a first team all-district selection. He added a second team all-state honor to his resume, and was named to the Columbus Dispatch All-Agonis squad, He was also named Bishop Watterson's team MVP.
Ferrell was honored by the Central Catholic League in each of his three seasons pitching for Watterson, including first team laurels in both his junior and senior years. He was a first team all-district honoree in his junior year.
Ferrell, who earned two letters in basketball and three in football, has one sister, Sara. The son of Gary and Pam Ferrell was born on May 7, 1987, and plans to major in sports marketing.
