Brant Selected for NCAA Exhibit
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Sophomore infielder Jay Brant is among 14 IU student-athletes who were selected to be part of a special exhibit to at the NCAA Hall of Champions. These student-athlets best exemplify the five commitment areas of the CHAMPS/Life Skills program - academic excellence, athletic excellence, career development, personal development and community service.
Not only will each athlete's bio and picture appear at the exhibit on a rotating basis, but they will receive a certificate of recognition from the NCAA Hall of Champions and CHAMPS/Life Skills and participate in a special recognition event with members of the NCAA Staff at halftime of Sunday's (Jan. 25) Indiana women's basketball game against Purdue.
Seven IU men's athletes and seven IU women's athletes will be recognized at the exhibit. The featured women's athletes are Kali Kullberg (basketball), Kayla Bashore (field hockey), Mindy Peterson (cross country/track), Katie Pollom (volleyball), Cassandra Cardinell (diving), Kari Schlukebir (tennis) and Karen Dennison (golf).
The featured men's athletes are Marshall Strickland (basketball), Joe Gonzalez (football), Danny O'Rourke (soccer), Mike Minton (track), Coyte Cooper (wrestling) and Tom Burns (cross country) and Brant. Brant will be on display at the NCAA Hall of Champions in Indianapolis during the months of May and June.
Tipoff for the Sunday's game, which has been designated "Pack the Hall" is at 2 p.m. at Assembly Hall.
IU has teamed up with Vera Bradley Designs to attempt to draw more than 10,000 fans to Assembly Hall. In honor of IU women's basketball fans, Vera Bradley Designs will donate $10,000 for breast cancer research if the Hoosiers Pack the Hall with more than 10,000 people.
