Leading up to the 2007 baseball season, IUHOOSIERS.com will profile all of the Hoosier newcomers for the upcoming year. The newcomer profile for Monday, Jan. 29, is of infielder Jake Lowe. Lowe, who throws and hits righty, will wear number 33 for Indiana in 2007.

Jake Lowe joins the Indiana baseball family after three years under Todd Sippel at Homewood-Flossmoor High School. The native of Flossmoor, Ill., was a standout as a junior, but missed all but 10 games of his senior year due to injury.

Lowe still managed to hit .425 and smash four home runs in his 10 games as a senior, following a junior season in which he hit .396 with three dingers and 16 doubles, driving in 56 runs. His junior campaign netted him all-area and team MVP honors, and led to him being a preseason all-state selection heading into his senior campaign. Additionally, he was named the South Inter-Conference Association East Player of the Year.

Lowe, who was ranked as the 13th-best prospect in the state of Illinois by Prep Baseball Report, has one brother, Aron. The son of Patti and Ron Lowe, who played college baseball at Kansas, was born on Sept. 17, 1988, and plans to major in business at IU.
