    Hoosiers Wrap Up First Week of Preseason Practice

    BLOOMINGTON, Ind -- The Indiana baseball team wrapped up it first week of practice on Thursday at Mellencamp Pavilion on the IU campus. Through eight straight days of workouts, head coach Bob Morgan is seeing progression and improvement.

    “We have begun to get ourselves back into good baseball shape and are getting better each day,” Morgan said.”We just have to keep progressing and get some guys healthy. (Seth) Bynum is playing well as shortstop. He’s doing a good job. (Mark)Calkins has also been playing well. He plays with lots of energy and he’s our emotional leader.”

    Despite injuries, Morgan has seen several bright spots in the pitching staff as well.

    “(Jacob) Cary, (Adam) Pegg and Chris (Behrens) have done a good job.” Morgan commented. “They’ve been workhorses for us in practice.”

    Indiana has just more than two weeks of preseason practice left before its season-opening series. The Hoosiers will take the field to begin the 2003 campagin on Feb. 21-23, at Morehead State. IU hosts DePauw in its home opener on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Sembower Field.
